John Paul Jones Takes Part in Powerful Cover of ‘When The Levee Breaks’

John Paul Jones took part in a very powerful cover of “When The Levee Breaks” for the event Peace Through Music: A Global Event for the Environment.

The event was organized by Playing For Change, a project that unites musicians all over the world. The event originally took place in December 2021, but the clip below of the “When The Levee Breaks” cover was recently uploaded to YouTube.

In addition to Jones, other artists taking part in the cover include Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and many more.

Per the YouTube listing, “‘When The Levee Breaks’ is a powerful, thought-provoking and emotionally-charged classic by Led Zeppelin, from their ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ album. The song is a rework of the 1929 original release by Kansas Joe Mccoy and Memphis Minnie about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927; the most destructive river flooding in U.S. history.”

Jones would say in a statement, “It seems that little has changed since 1927, or even 2005 with Katrina. It’s still a really powerful track, both musically and lyrically.”
