Kim Thayil of Soundgarden performs on the new version of ‘The Day I Tried to Live’ for the King Ultramega project.

Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil has joined forces with the King Ultramega project to record a new version of the band’s song “The Day I Tried to Live.” This project, led by Mark Menghi of Metal Allegiance, pays tribute to the late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who passed away in 2017.

In addition to Thayil, the new version features Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. Thayil shared that participating in this project allowed him to explore his creativity and connect with other artists in a meaningful way. He found the experience rewarding and is excited about future collaborations.

King Ultramega has also released a cover of Soundgarden’s “Rusty Cage,” featuring Benante, Alice in Chains’ William DuVall, and Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher.

In other news, Soundgarden is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this Saturday. Fans of the band and the genre are eagerly looking forward to this honor.
