Kirk Hammett has played “Nothing Else Matters” live with Metallica over 1,200 times according to Setlist.fm, but even he’s not immune to stepping in it.

During Metallica’s headlining set at Boston Calling over the Memorial Day weekend, fan-shot video below captured Hammett playing the intro of “Nothing Else Matters,” and then the guitarist has an epic brain fart that caused him to playfully collapse on stage once he realized his error.

After bassist Robert Trujillo pretended to fan Hammett to revive the guitarist, he got up from the stage and said to the festival crowd, with a laugh, “Sorry guys! You’re so kick-ass, I got distracted by how kick-ass you are. We’ll try that again, okay?”

It just goes to show that even one of the best guitarists in rock isn’t immune to mistakes and at least has enough of a sense of humor to recognize that.
