Avenged Sevenfold fans have been patiently awaiting a new album from the band, and singer M. Shadows shared some new updates on A7X’s eighth studio album.

Appearing on The Bob Lefsetz Podcast (as transcribed by Metal Hammer), Shadows says the LP will drop either in late 2022 or early 2023 adding, “Status is interesting. We recorded an album, you know, a few years ago. We haven’t finished it yet.”

Shadows added, “We kind of took some time off for family, COVID, weird touring circumstances, some changes within our team… And we are still currently with one record left on Warner Brothers Records. We’ll be finishing that record up – I think we have May locked out [for when] our producer can get back to work on it, and then we’re going to mix with Andy Wallace in August…And then we’re going to figure out if it’s the first quarter, or fourth quarter, or what we’re going to do. So, the status is that, and then we’re going to be booking tours, put the tickets on sale when the record comes out, and the whole nine yards.”

A7X’s last studio album, The Stage, was released in October 2016. It appears the timeline for the band’s new album has changed, as evident from Shadows’ comments from July 2021 when he said the album would be out before summer 2022.

Of course, Shadows did say at that time the band wanted to wait until they could tour in full force since coronavirus pandemic derailed the entire touring industry.

“The world has changed,” said Shadows. “Put out a record on Spotify without touring for a rock band, it just doesn’t make sense to us. So we’re gonna wait till everything is back, then we’ll come out with the record, finish it up, and all will be good.”
