Starting September 8, McDonald’s is bringing back Extra Value Meals! Customers can enjoy a 15% discount when they buy items together instead of separately. After a six-year break, these meal deals are back with $5 breakfast options and $8 lunch and dinner combos.
Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, said, “We’re laser-focused on delivering value and affordability.” The combo meal idea first came from a clever employee in the Bay Area back in 1991. Grouping menu items together made drive-thru lines faster and helped sell more food. Now, each meal includes a main item, sides, and a drink.
These deals will run from September through November, aiming to attract customers looking to save money. This move follows other budget-friendly options from McDonald’s, like the $5 Meal Deal launched in 2024 and the McValue menu introduced in January 2025, which lets customers add an extra item for just a dollar.
McDonald’s has a long history of value menus. They started the Dollar Menu nationwide in 2002, followed by the McPick 2 for $2 in 2016 and the Extra Value Menu in 2012. When combo meals first appeared in the 1990s, they were marketed as a way for families to save money. The idea was so successful that other chains like Taco Bell, In-N-Out, and Wendy’s jumped on board.
To keep prices low while competing, McDonald’s is helping franchise owners manage costs. So, get ready to enjoy some tasty meals without breaking the bank!
