Musician and actor Meat Loaf has been announced as the executive producer of the upcoming television series based around his 1993 hit “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” The series is being created alongside Christopher Potts and Jonty Nash who formed the production company Nobody’s Hero.
“For the most part, we want to create shows that are funny, clever and buzzworthy, but two out of three ain’t bad,” Potts and Nash said, to which Meat Loaf added: “You took the words right out of my mouth.”
The series will be a relationship competition in which two featured couples will put their relationship to the test while going after a cash prize. They will endure physical challenges based around iconic, classic ballads for two rounds. Their trust and communication skills will be put to the test, and the final round, called endgame, will be the ultimate challenge the remaining couple will face.
Meat Loaf, born Michael Lee Aday, will be the driving force of the challenges behind the scenes. No air date or network home have been officially confirmed yet.
“I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” was featured on the musician’s sixth studio album Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. It was written by Jim Steinman and performed by Meat Loaf alongside Lorraine Crosby. The song topped charts in 28 countries including the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Chart.
“I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” won Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo at the 1994 Grammy Awards. It has since been certified platinum in seven countries.
Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell was also a career highlight for Meat Loaf. The No. 1, platinum-selling album followed his 1977 debut album Bat Out of Hell. It also featured the singles “Life Is A Lemon and I Want My Money Back,” “Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through,” “Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are” and “Good Girls Go to Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere).”
