Metallica is simply over the moon over the use of “Master of Puppets” in the season four finale of Netflix’s Stranger Things.
The band issued a statement via Instagram accompanied by video of Eddie Munson performing the iconic metal song saying, “The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?”
The statement continued, “It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”
(Fun fact: Tye Trujillo, the 17-year-old son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, is credited on the season finale for contributing additional guitar tracks. Robert shared via Instagram, “That’s my boy! Proud of ya Tye! Stranger Things finale shredding it on “Master of Puppets” and big thanks to @kirkhammett on helping!”
Metallica, still clearly in the afterglow of “Master of Puppets” being highlighted in such a big way, decided to get a bit cheeky and share a live cut of the track from their show in Prague last month along with the caption, “Heard any cool songs lately?” (Frankly, we all would’ve done the same.)
Heard any cool songs lately? Prague ’22
