Metallica and “Master of Puppets” has accomplished a crazy feat thanks to Stranger Things: The classic metal track has entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the very first time.

For the Hot 100 chart for the week of July 16, 2022, “Master of Puppets” has come in at #40. In addition to “Master of Puppets,” Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” — which was also featured in season four of Stranger Things — currently sits at #4 on the Hot 100.

As previously reported, “Master of Puppets” was featured in the season four finale of the hit Netflix series which has led to an influx of people — most of them younger — deciding to explore the Metallica catalog. However, this has led to some unfortunate “gatekeeping” by longtime fans. This led to Metallica sharing in the comments of one of their TikToks, “FYI – EVERYONE is welcome in the Metallica Family. Whether you’ve been a fan for 40 hours or 40 years, we all share a bond through music. All of you started at ground zero at one point in time.”

There’s no confirmation on just how lucrative the inclusion of “Master of Puppets” in Stranger Things has been for Metallica, but CBS News reports Bush has earned a whopping $2.3 million in streaming royalties between May 27 and June 23 from “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God).”
