Nick Mason Sarcastically Compares Roger Waters to Stalin Over His Bullying Claims

Nick Mason offered up a doozy of a comparison to Roger Waters and his recent bullying claims inside of Pink Floyd.

The former Pink Floyd drummer took part in an interview with Jim DeRogatis for The Coda Collection where DeRogatis recalled Waters saying in an appearance on WTF With Marc Maron, “David [Gilmour, guitarist] and Rick [Wright, keyboardist] mainly were always trying to drag me down…They were always trying to knock me off.”

In response, Mason said, with a laugh, “I’m slightly flabbergasted by it, but I think that’s a slightly over emotional way of putting that there was some sort of division within the band… Because Roger was always looking beyond the music, in a way. I think it was artificial, but I think possibly there was the side that wanted to do inflatables and films, as well as music, and those who just wanted to do music. But, I don’t think they were mean to him, particularly. It’s hard to imagine being mean to Roger!”

He then says, with a laugh, “Stalin was bullied…”

Of course, Waters has been very public in recent years about various ongoing issues with Pink Floyd. He’s said multiple times, with the most recent example being in May 2020, how David Gilmour has banned him from sharing any solo work news via Pink Floyd’s website.

In June, Waters blamed Gilmour for the delay in the release of the reissue of Animals over the inclusion of certain liner notes. Gilmour would respond a week later in an interview with Rolling Stone saying, “Well, a very lovely ‘Animals’ remix has been done, but *someone* has tried to force some liner notes on it that I haven’t approved and, um, *someone* is digging his heels and not allowing it to be released.”
