Nirvana recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their landmark album Nevermind, and apparently, so did the fans.
Per Billboard, Originally released Sept. 24, 1991, Nevermind vaults 21-7 on the Top Rock Albums chart with 13,000 equivalent album units earned, up 53%, in the Sept. 24-30 tracking week, according to MRC Data. It also jumps 11-6 on Alternative Albums, and on the all-format Billboard 200, Nevermind bounds 125-44, appearing in the chart’s top 50 for the first time since 2011, when it was reissued for its 20th anniversary.”
Billboard further noted, “The set spends its 543rd week on the Billboard 200 and has sold 9.9 million copies to-date.”
Last month, UMG announced a 30th anniversary reissue of Nevermind. The reissue will be available in a variety of formats (digital, CD, vinyl) beginning November 12. The Super Deluxe box set of the reissue, which contains 8 LPs and a bunch of other extras, won’t be released until May 27, 2022.
UMG noted, “A total of 94 audio and video tracks–70 previously unreleased–will be made available across configurations ranging from Super Deluxe Editions to standard digital/CD and single disc vinyl with bonus 7-inch. In all formats, Nevermind is newly remastered from the original half-inch stereo analog tapes to high-resolution 192kHz 24-bit.”
The various reissue formats will also contain up to four full live concert recordings during the Nevermind era. The dates and locations of those recordings include the following:
-Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands (recorded and filmed on November 25, 1991 at the famed club Paradiso)
-Live in Del Mar, California (recorded on December 28, 1991 at the Pat O’Brien Pavilion at the Del Mar Fairgrounds)
-Live in Melbourne, Australia for triple j (recorded February 1, 1992 at The Palace in St. Kilda)
-Live in Tokyo, Japan (recorded at the Nakano Sunplaza on February 19, 1992).
