Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their breakthrough US album, Crush. The expanded edition will be released on October 10 through UMR/Virgin. To mark the occasion, the band has shared “Dirt (B-Side),” originally a B-side to their hit single “Secret.”
Crush, released on June 17, 1985, was OMD’s sixth album and marked their big break in the United States. The album featured the hit “So In Love,” which made it into the Billboard Top 40, along with the popular track “Secret.” It received positive reviews in the U.S. and also performed well in the UK and Europe, peaking at No. 13 on the UK Official Album Chart.
The band recorded Crush in Liverpool’s Amazon Studios in late 1984, before moving to The Manor in Oxfordshire. They brought in producer Stephen Hague to help refine their sound. “We needed someone to help us focus on the production,” said bandleader Andy McCluskey. “We were too close to these half-written songs.”
The 40th anniversary edition of Crush will be available on 2LP black and colored vinyl, as well as 2CD and digital formats. It has been remastered from the original analog files and includes seven unreleased tracks, two demos, an alternative mix, and four never-before-heard songs. The package also features non-album B-sides, extended mixes, rare photos, and notes from journalist Jason Draper in conversation with McCluskey.
