After staging a surprise show Sunday night at Brooklyn’s Warsaw, Prophets of Rage – the supergroup featuring members of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real – have announced a nationwide summer trek dubbed the Make America Rage Again Tour.
Following their three warm-up shows, including their intense debut performance at Los Angeles’ Whisky A Go Go, Prophets of Rage will next take the stage at a still-to-be-determined venue in Cleveland on July 19th, the same time the Republican National Convention swarms the Ohio city.
Tom Morello has previously promised the band will “cause a ruckus” while in Cleveland, and as long as Prophets don’t break any serious laws, the group officially kicks off their summer tour August 19th in Fairfax, Virginia. The 35+ city trek will then loop around the nation’s amphitheaters before ending October 16th in Chula Vista, California just two weeks before Election Day.
Tickets for the Make America Rage Again Tour go on sale June 10th at Live Nation.
At the band’s Warsaw concert Sunday – a last-minute gig following the cancelation of their surprise Governors Ball set – Prophets of Rage fittingly opened their show with their medley of the Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” and Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power.”
The performance of the Licensed to Ill track wasn’t unique to the Brooklyn concert – the supergroup had previously doled out a “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn”/”Fight the Power” medley at their two Los Angeles gigs – but this marked the first time that Prophets opened their concert with the Beasties track.
