Rob Zombie Shares Trailer for His Film Reboot of ‘The Munsters’

Rob Zombie has shared the trailer for his film reboot of The Munsters, which is cheekily referred to as “the greatest love story ever told.”

Embedded below, the film looks delightfully camp and appears to highlight the beginnings of Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Lily Munster’s (Sheri Moon Zombie) relationship, since son Eddie Munster is nowhere to be found but was prominently featured in the original series. However, Grandpa Munster (Daniel Roebuck) is included in the film cast.

Per IMDbThe Munsters reboot film will chronicle the family’s move from Transylvania to a calm, picturesque suburb in the United States.

As we previously reported, Zombie wrote and directed the film reboot of the classic sitcom, which aired on CBS for two seasons from September 1964 to May 1966. While Zombie is known for making very gory horror films, his Munsters film has secured a PG rating “for macabre and suggestive material, scary images and language.”

Zombie tells Entertainment Weekly“Yeah, it’s 100 percent in the spirit of the show. I didn’t want it to be different. I wanted to totally retain the vibe that it had in the ’60s.”

While the film is sticking to its “vibe that it had int he ’60s,” there is one significant difference between the series and the new film: The film will be in color!

Zombie noted, “I knew that if I went in and demanded ‘This movie’s going to be in black and white or forget it!’ we would not be talking about the ‘Munsters’ right now, because it would have never happened. I guaran-f—ing-tee it. But what I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real. I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting.”

The Munsters is currently slated for release in September.
