Mercury Studios will also release a highly desirable, limited edition 10-inch picture disc, “The Rolling Stones: Rain Fall Down (Live on Copacabana Beach) / Rough Justice (Live In Salt Lake City)” as part of the first Record Store Day Drops on June 12. The Stones’ Copacabana show went down in history as one of the biggest concert audiences in history, estimated at 1.5 million people. The new release captures the incredible chemistry between the band and the gigantic audience on that hot night of February 8, 2006.
The band emerge via their own purpose-built bridge leading from the Copacabana Palace Hotel to the stage, and aerial shots convey the sheer enormity of the crowd, who watched not just from the beach, but from boats moored at the water’s edge. Keith Richards remembers of the event: “Not that we’re unused to playing some of the biggest shows in the world, but I must say Rio did take the cake.” Recalls Mick Jagger: “‘It was amazing. It was a really good audience. They know how to enjoy themselves on those occasions.”
The new formats feature four songs that were not part of the original 2007 DVD release The Biggest Bang: “Tumbling Dice”, “Oh No, Not You Again”, “This Place Is Empty.” and “Sympathy For The Devil.” The Deluxe 2DVD+2CD & 2SD BD+2CD editions are packaged in a 12 X 12 40-page book, with the Copacabana concert on DVD or SD Blu-ray and 2CD, plus an exclusive bonus DVD or SD Blu-ray that includes the November 2005 concert in Salt Lake City, UT, also from the Bigger Bang tour.
