RUN-DMC headlined the 2nd night of Musikfest at the Sands Steel Stage Saturday night in Bethlehem, Pa. What started off as a stormy late afternoon, ended up being a perfect evening as DJ Charlie Chan Soprano warmed up the diverse crowd with old school 80’s and early 90’s hip hop jams.
Known as the most influential and well-known hip hop acts of the eighties, RUN-DMC proved they still got it after 35 years as fans of all ages were dancing to hits like “It’s Tricky”, “It’s Like That”, “Walk This Way” and “My Adidas”.
Original member Jam Master Jay who was fatally shot in 2002 was remembered on stage with sons Jason “Jam Master J’Son” Mizell Jr. and T.J. “Dasmatic” Mizell in a battle on the turntables.
The downside of the show was the amount of time they actually performed. The set only lasted 55 minutes and in between songs they chatted and reminisced about the evolution of hip hop. “Rappers these days don’t even do beat box,” he said. “I can’t even imagine it. Can you imagine Drake doing the beat box?”
Muzikfest continues through the 14th of August.
