Sam Hunt Has Fans Singing His Every Word As Summer Tour Kicks Off

Sam Hunt’s summer tour got off to a flying start over the weekend, opening with shows in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The country star’s itinerary already has him playing across the US all the way into November, with more shows to be added.

The tour began in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where the multi-platinum-selling Hunt had the audience singing along to his every word, in a set featuring his extensive collection of No.1 country hits (“Leave The Night On,” “Body Like A Back Road,” Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s” and more) and other favorites, as well as his new single “Water Under the Bridge.”

The tour now moves on to Anchorage, Alaska for two shows on Friday. It plays throughout the summer and into fall, the last current date in Sacramento on October 15, although Hunt also plays with the Zac Brown Band in Phoenix on November 19.

“Water Under the Bridge” was written by Hunt with Shane McAnally, Chris LaCorte, and Josh Osborne, and he co-produced it with McAnally and LaCorte. The MCA Nashville track rises 48-46 on Billboard’s Hot Country Airplay chart, on which Hunt is also at No.20 via his guest appearance on Ingrid Andress’ “Wishful Drinking.” That single races 31-17 on Hot Country Songs.

American Songwriter noted of the new song: “Hunt and crew created ‘Water Under the Bridge’ as a fast-paced blend of country strummings mixed with a pleasantly surprising dose of pop music sounds.” Taste of Country added: “A soulful piano quickly mixes with a drum loop to create a new version of a sound that’s uniquely Hunt and decidedly pop-country…there’s some regret and youthful defiance, but at the chorus, one finds fitting humility when he sings ‘we were young, dumb and so full of it.’ It’s a lesson in word economy.”
