Sam Tompkins Gives Hope On Emotional Single ‘Hero’

Sam Tompkins has shared “Hero,” the emotional third track to be taken from his upcoming EP who do you pray to?.

The song finds the fast-rising UK artist addressing his father in its poignant lyrics, urging him to find hope even in his darkest moments. “Some turn invisible, but that’s not original/Might not be invincible, but you’re still my hero Dad,” he sings.

“‘Hero’ is a really personal song,” Tompkins said in a press release. “It’s a tribute to the courage my dad showed when he persevered through one of the hardest periods of his life.”

The Brighton singer-songwriter will release his new EP who do you pray to? on March 18. It will also feature the recently released singles “Whole” and “Bloodline.”

His vivid storytelling has brought him the attention of some of the world’s biggest music stars including Elton John, Bastille, Bebe Rehxa, Ty Dolla $ign, and Justin Bieber. The latter has been a prominent supporter of Tompkins, with Bieber giving him a co-sign early in his career. “I watch your videos man, and you’re just so talented,” the US superstar told him. “You bring so much joy to people, your voice is so good. Keep going, keep singing because you’re already making such an impact. That’s what’s so beautiful.”

Matching pop touches to a classic feel, he’s often compared to Sam Fender’s anthemic truth-seeking or Tom Walker’s revelatory autobiography. Yet Tompkins’ work stands alone and is already scaling mountainous heights. His music digs deep, explores the key topics in his life, and communicates emotions we all feel, but sometimes can’t put into words.

Last year, the musician embarked on a sold-out UK and European tour and will play some of his biggest shows to date – including a headline performance at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town – when he hits the road again this spring.
