Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony Unveil Van Hagar Social Media Accounts

Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have started brand new Facebook and Instagram accounts highlighting the “Van Hagar” years of Van Halen.

Hagar announced the launch on his own personal social media channels saying in part, “Mikey and I have been checking out our old vintage footage of stuff we’ve been doing over the years with Van Hagar years and all that, and we found some of the coolest stuff. And we’re digging and we’re digging — we’re finding nuggets every day and we’re gonna share ’em with you.”

Anthony added in his own video, “Everyone keeps asking us, ‘Why don’t you post more of the Van Hagar years stuff?’ Well, guess what. You’ve got it. We’re gonna go through, dig through some of the archived stuff, try to find stuff you haven’t seen before — maybe some stuff that we haven’t seen in decades — and throw it up, and maybe post a couple of comments to go along with it.

So far, the accounts have shared one video (below): A clip of the band performing “Dreams” at a 1993 show at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif.

Launching “Van Hagar” pages is a great idea for sharing cool videos from the vault, like the one above, but it is a little funny considering back in April, Anthony recalled Van Halen’s record label wanted the band to change their name to Van Hagar once Hagar replaced David Lee Roth. Hagar would say in an interview following that news, “I was a hundred percent on board with it. It was Van Halen with a new singer. I would have been embarrassed to be Van Hagar. I would have said, ‘Let’s just change it back to [Van Halen’s original name] Mammoth’ or something, you know. Go back to the beginning.”
