Shinedown Tops Billboard’s ‘Greatest of All Time Mainstream Rock Artists’ Chart

Shinedown has topped Billboard’s new historical retrospective “Greatest of All Time Mainstream Rock Artists” chart.

Billboard launched its Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in March 1981. While Shinedown has been active for about half of the chart’s existence, their performance on the chart is truly remarkable.

“In a career that’s spanned 27 charting singles on Mainstream Rock Airplay to date, Shinedown has never not sent one of its songs to the top five, let alone the top 10,” notes Billboard. “Its perfect top-five batting average (27-for-27, all released on Atlantic Records) includes a chart-record 16 No. 1s, meaning nearly two-thirds of the group’s entries have reigned, including its last six in a row dating to 2017.” (You can see all of Shinedown’s No. 1 songs in the gallery below.)

Shinedown frontman Brent Smith credits the band’s success to the support they’ve received from radio saying to Billboard, “The thing about terrestrial radio, for this band specifically, is that we knew early on — right around 2002, 2003 — how important terrestrial radio was going to be for us…We said yes to everything we could possibly say [“yes” to] for rock radio…We tried our best to always be honest, and to give radio everything that they needed, and everything that they wanted.”

Smith added, “…A huge reason why we have our audience is terrestrial radio, and the mainstream rock chart. They have just been such a huge supporter of ours over the last two decades now. The amount of gratitude I have, I don’t even think I can put it into words.”
