St. Vincent Announces 70s-Inspired Apple Music 1 Radio Show ‘WSTV Radio’

St. Vincent is bringing the 70s to Apple Music 1 with her new radio show WSTV Radio. Launching on the platform on June 4, at 6 P.M. EST, the show will feature classic hits from the decade as well as actual archival documents such as news reports, weather forecasts, and traffic reports.

The first episode of WSTV Radio will center around the news of August 15, 1972, two days following the second day of the Festival of Hope concert which was held at Long Island, New York’s Roosevelt Raceway. The event featured appearances from James Brown, Chuck Berry, Sly & the Family Stone, Jefferson Airplane, and more. The episode will include music from David Bowie as well as the Isley Brothers and Gilbert O’Sullivan.

Taking on the identity of a radio DJ in New York, St. Vincent will be building her WSTV Radio playlist out of the three top-charting songs of each selected week from the 70s. To blend the times, the musician will also be playing music by popular artists of the coming years and framing them as early premieres for her radio audience.

“On WSTV Radio, I take a little acid trip back in time with a smooth voice and all the coolest new (old) tunes,” St. Vincent explained in a statement. “It is a lot of fun (for me, at least). Enjoy!”

The announcement of WSTV Radio follows the release of St. Vincent’s latest album Daddy’s Home, released May 14 via Loma Vista Recordings. The project was produced by St. Vincent and Jack Antonoff and follows up the singer’s 2017 album MASSEDUCTION.

Of the album’s Seventies inspiration, Pitchfork wrote: “An immense talent with an impeccable track record, her meticulous craft is matched by a Bowian gift for shapeshifting. Every world-building detail on Daddy’s Home, her album-length tribute to ’70s rock’n’roll, is executed with chameleonic precision; not a note or a hair on her Candy Darling wig is out of place.”

St. Vincent’s latest album Daddy’s Home is available now.
