The Beatles: Get Back will be premiering on Disney+ in three parts this November.
Per The Beatles’ official website, the Peter Jackson-helmed documentary will premiere on the streaming service on November 25, 26 and 27. Each installment is about two hours long. The documentary, itself, draws from 55 hours of never-released footage of The Beatles in the studio, shot between January 2-31, 1969. This footage came from the original filming of Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s documentary Let It Be, which ended with the band’s famous rooftop concert.
In a statement, Walt Disney Company’s Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board Bob Iger said, “As a huge Beatles fan myself, I am absolutely thrilled that Disney+ will be the home for this extraordinary documentary series by the legendary filmmaker Peter Jackson. This phenomenal collection of never-before-seen footage offers an unprecedented look at the close camaraderie, genius songwriting, and indelible impact of one of the most iconic and culturally influential bands of all time, and we can’t wait to share ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ with fans around the world.”
Jackson said in his own statement, “In many respects, Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s remarkable footage captured multiple storylines. The story of friends and of individuals. It is the story of human frailties and of a divine partnership. It is a detailed account of the creative process, with the crafting of iconic songs under pressure, set amid the social climate of early 1969. But it’s not nostalgia – it’s raw, honest, and human. Over six hours, you’ll get to know The Beatles with an intimacy that you never thought possible. I’m very grateful to The Beatles, Apple Corps and Disney for allowing me to present this story in exactly the way it should be told. I’ve been immersed in this project for nearly three years, and I’m very excited that audiences around the world will finally be able to see it.”

The Beatles: Get Back was initially set for release in 2020 but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In December 2020, a preview of the film (below) was released, and it was announced the film would be released on August 27, but clearly, plans changed.
The making of Let It Be has been long assumed to be full of tension, but Jackson said in a statement when the film was originally announced that wasn’t the case.
“I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth,” said Jackson. “After reviewing all the footage and audio that Michael Lindsay-Hogg shot 18 months before they broke up, it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove. Sure, there’s moments of drama – but none of the discord this project has long been associated with.
He added, “Watching John, Paul, George, and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating – it’s funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate. I’m thrilled and honored to have been entrusted with this remarkable footage – making the movie will be a sheer joy.”
Like the most recent Beatles film, 2016’s The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years, this project is being made with the full cooperation of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, and Olivia Harrison.
