The Cardigans have announced that they’ll be releasing a two-part compilation album, featuring two volumes entitled The Rest Of The Best, Vol. 1 & 2.

The compilation album The Rest Of The Best Vol. 2 covers some of the bands recordings released as B-sides on singles, soundtracks and as bonus tracks on Japanese, French and UK versions of their albums between 1994 – 2006.

The volume was compiled by The Cardigans and remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. The artwork is created based on photos taken by photographer Martin Bogren, who worked with the band from the very beginning. The 1CD version also includes a 16-page booklet.

The group reflected on the compilations, saying: “We are delighted to release these compilations. Songs that for various reasons were left out of our studio albums. Now our audience can listen through all B sides in chronological order and it’s a pure joy to reminisce all the way back to 1993. It’s almost like a forgotten record, or rather four. We hope you’ll enjoy the 13 year ride!”

The Cardigans have had some fun moments in the spotlight over the past year.

Back in April of 2023, they released an official sped-up version of their 1996 song “Step On Me” after a fast-paced take on the track went viral on TikTok.

The original version of “Step On Me” appeared on the Swedish band’s third studio album, First Band On The Moon. It was not released as a single but gained traction online anyway.

The song found frontwoman Nina Persson singing from the perspective of a woman in a relationship where she would let her significant other do anything in pursuit of keeping their partnership alive. “I think you’re standing on my left foot/It’s hurting, but that’s OK/Cause I’m in your way,” she sang in the song’s opening lines. “You’ll break that foot that you’re standing on/I’ll walk with the other one.”
