This Day in Top 40 History: October 22

On October 22, 2012, Taylor Swift released her fourth album, *Red*. This album marked a key moment in her shift from country singer to pop star, showcasing her ability to blend genres. *Red* featured Swift’s first No. 1 single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” along with the beloved ballad “All Too Well.” The album received nominations for Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the 56th GRAMMY Awards.

Looking back at music history, there have been many breakthrough hits and milestones. In 1965, The Beatles topped the U.S. charts with “Yesterday,” while The Rolling Stones had “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” at No. 10. The following year, The Supremes became the first all-female group to have a No. 1 album in the U.S. with *The Supremes A’ Go-Go*, featuring hits like “Love Is Like an Itching in My Heart.”

In 2002, the Foo Fighters released their fourth album, *One by One*, which won them a GRAMMY for Best Rock Album. That same year, Christina Aguilera launched her fourth album, *Stripped*, introducing her alter ego, Xtina, and stepping away from her teen pop image.

Live performances also hold a special place in music history. In 1990, Pearl Jam made their live debut in Seattle. A decade later, they celebrated this milestone with a performance at the MGM Grand Arena, which was recorded and released as *10/22/00 – Las Vegas, Nevada*.

These moments from October 22 will always be remembered in Top 40 history.
