Thomas Rhett has achieved his 17th No.1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart dated September 18 with the Valory/Big Machine Label Group single “Country Again.” The song makes the jump from No.3 in its 22nd week on the countdown, also climbing 7-5 on Hot Country Songs.
Rhett wrote the track with Zach Crowell and Ashley Gorley and it’s the second single, following “What’s Your Country Song,” from Rhett’s fifth album Country Again: Side A. The set was released in late April and reached No.2 on the US country album chart, and No.10 on the Billboard 200. Country Again: Side B is expected for release later in the year.
“Country Again” is also the second-highest track of the week for most increased audience and most increased plays at US radio, in both cases behind only Sam Hunt’s new release “23.” Rhett has been posting country airplay No.1s since “It Goes Like This” became his first in October 2013, going on to be certified triple platinum.
“No. 1 singles are always something I cherish, but this one especially,” Rhett told Billboard. “This song was such a central part of how I processed the last couple of years of my life. So to have it resonate with people the way it has and to have it sung back to me every night on the road now that we’re able to tour again, it’s just been kind of the perfect punctuation point to this chapter for me.”
Rhett’s Center Point Road Tour continues tomorrow night (16) in Syracuse, NY; that run extends until October 9, with guests Cole Swindell and Gabby Barrett, and he will also appear at Live Fest in Naples, FL on December 11. The star is already booked for the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, CA on April 29 next year, where his fellow headliners will be Carrie Underwood (30) and Luke Combs (May 1).
