Tom Jones has announced his return to the arena stage on the Surrounded By Time Tour, with a run of four dates in the UK in December.
The longtime vocal hero and latter-day judge on The Voice will start the series of shows in Glasgow on December 5 and conclude with a London concert at the O2 Arena on the 9th. The tour is named after Jones’ current album, which debuted at No.1 in the UK to make him the oldest artist, aged 80 years and ten months at the time, to have a chart-topping album with a new studio release. Jones turned 81 on June 7.
Ahead of that, Jones played last Friday (23) at Newmarket Racecourse, “the home of racing,” and is playing tomorrow night (27) at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Theatre. The superstar will also be taking part in the National Lottery’s Revive Live Tour of shows by major artists in smaller independent venues, to help the live sector’s recovery from its pandemic restrictions.
He’ll be appearing at Cambridge Junction on September 14, a venue with a main hall capacity of 850, which is, unsurprisingly, sold out. Jones is urging music fans across the UK to “support your local pub, club, gym or church or wherever someone has the guts to bring in some entertainment, it makes all the difference both to budding artists and the community.”
Jones recently chose a selection of his favourite albums to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of HMV Records. His choices included his first-ever LP purchase, a self-titled set by one of his heroes, Jerry Lee Lewis; Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black; and the soundtrack to the hit movie The Full Monty, which featured his hit “You Can Keep Your Hat On.”
Tickets for the December dates will go on sale at 9am BST this Friday (July 30) at LiveNation.co.uk. The dates will feature special guests yet to be announced.
