Tony Iommi is reintroducing his signature guitar humbucker in partnership with Gibson. This pickup features a unique mix of powerful ceramic and Alnico 2 magnets, delivering the incredible tone and sustain that made Iommi’s work with Black Sabbath so iconic. Originally launched in the ’90s, this is the first signature Gibson pickup, making its comeback three decades later.
“I’m really excited that Gibson’s bringing back my signature humbucker; they were getting pretty hard to find!” Iommi shared. He explained that the pickup was developed after spending time in Nashville, experimenting with different setups to achieve the perfect tone and sustain for his favorite guitars.
“We had to ensure it worked with my light gauge strings and low tunings, but still packed a punch. The result has some serious output,” he added. Iommi also mentioned that these pickups are featured on his signature guitars, and he is thrilled with how they turned out.
You can order your own humbucker now at Gibson.com.
Recently, Iommi performed with his original Black Sabbath bandmates—Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward—at the Back to the Beginning concert on July 5. Sadly, Ozzy passed away just over two weeks later, on July 22.
