TWICE’s Nayeon Becomes First K-Pop Soloist To Hit Billboard 200 Top 10

TWICE’s Nayeon has become the first K-pop soloist to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.

The eldest member of the JYP Entertainment girl group released her debut solo EP IM NAYEON last month (June 24). According to the latest Billboard charts, dated July 9, the singer landed at No.7 on the Billboard 200.

IM NAYEON sold the equivalent of 57,000 album units until the week ending June 30, with 52,000 of that number made up by album sales. The EP was also the highest-selling release of the week thanks to that figure.

Previously, TWICE have landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, first with the mini-album Taste Of Love, which peaked at No.6. Their latest studio album Formula Of Love: T+O=<3, meanwhile, went three better at the end of last year, reaching No.3.

Nayeon is the first member of TWICE to share an official solo release. Speaking to Elle Korea last year, the singer was asked about her desire to make her own music. At the time, she responded, “I don’t think I’m greedy about writing songs or making choreography. I don’t even know if I have that talent. But I feel proud afterward, so I’m always challenging myself. Maybe I haven’t had fun yet. I’m looking for an answer [to that].”

Meanwhile, TWICE recently wrapped up their 4th World Tour III in support of Formula Of Love with a history-making first. The group became the only K-pop girl group to perform at a stadium in the US with a pair of shows at Los Angeles’ Banc Of California Stadium in May.

“Our precious ONCE filling the vast stadium,” they wrote alongside photos from the concerts afterward, referring to their fans. “We will forever keep the beating of heart when we first came up on the stage tonight! Thank you for writing our history with us by our side.”
