Vandelux Remixes Motown Classic ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’

Vandelux has shared two new remixes of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” The remixes arrive on what would have been Terrell’s 80th birthday.

To create the mix, Vandelux used the audio files from Gaye and Terrell’s original 1967 studio session. Using found “artifacts”—like Gaye stomping his foot between takes, turning a page, and bumping into a piece of equipment—Vandelux created a new percussion trap for his mix. He also pitch-shifted Terrell and Gaye’s vocals down slightly.

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” served as the opening track on Terrell and Gaye’s first joint full-length LP—they released it as a single on April 20, 1967. Written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, it peaked at #3 the Billboard Pop Chart, and #3 on the R&B charts. It’s since been certified seven-times Platinum and generated over a billion streams on Spotify, plus over 76 million YouTube views.

The song has also seen countless covers over the years, perhaps most notably from Diana Ross, whose version remains an enduring hit. Among the other artists who have released their own rendition of the track are Michael McDonald, Cascada, Jennifer Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg and the Glee cast.

Vandelux produced two new versions of the track—a focus mix and a “Club Mix,” the former of which arrives alongside a bespoke visual. He recently concluded a US tour supporting Elderbrook, but he’ll still bring the new mixes to the masses soon. He’s set to open for KYGO at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida tonight, May 2nd—he’s also booked to play Into The Horizon festival in San Diego this summer.

Listen to the Vandelux remixes of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” now.
