Chris Stapleton and his band, including his wife Megane, delivered a powerful live set for CBS Saturday Morning at the weekend, with songs from his current, award-winning album Starting Over.
The performance was part of the show’s Saturday Sessions series and included versions of the album’s title song as well as “When I’m With You” and, as you can see here, a suitably rocking rendition of “Arkansas.” The song was one of the tracks from the record that he co-wrote with former Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell.
The song “Starting Over” is nominated as both Single of the Year and Song of the Year for the 55th CMA Awards, at which Stapleton, along with Eric Church, has five nods. The full-length has an Album of the Year nomination and the singer-writer-guitarist is also recognized in the prestigious Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year categories. Voting among CMA members ends on October 27 and the awards ceremony will be held on November 10.
Stapleton is continuing his extensive tour in support of Starting Over, on which the next date is on Thursday (23) in Bethel, NY. Margo Price and Kendell Marvel are guesting at this and some other dates, with Yola and the Marcus King Band also part of the overall itinerary. Sheryl Crow will also guest-star on a series of shows, and other highlights of the tour include a November 13 engagement in Minneapolis with George Strait and Little Big Town.
Live commitments for Stapleton continue in 2022 with some April shows and then another full run from June 2. A Wrigley Field show in Chicago on July 2 will co-star the Highwomen, Mavis Staples & the Dirty Knobs and Mike Campbell.
Stapleton was also one of the featured artists on The Metallica Blacklist, marking the 30th anniversary of their The Black Album. Proceeds from his cover of “Nothing Else Matters” will go to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation & Outlaw State of Kind.
