Watch Temple of the Dog Cover Mad Season’s ‘River of Deceit’

Temple of the Dog – the reunited grunge supergroup featuring members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden – paid tribute to another Seattle supergroup Saturday night as they covered Mad Season’s “River of Deceit.”

Two beloved Nineties acts reform with help from the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and a handful of grunge all-stars
Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready is the common thread between the two bands, playing that role in both the Chris Cornell- and Layne Staley-led projects.

However, Cornell has plenty of experience filling in for the Alice in Chains singer as he first performed “River of Deceit” during a one-off Mad Season reunion in Seattle in January 2015. Since then, Cornell has covered the Above song as a solo artist upwards of 40 times over the past two years.
Temple of the Dog, onstage at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre for the second time in two nights, largely played the same covers-filled set list as their Friday night debut with two notable exceptions: “River of Deceit” and the live debut of “Missing,” a Superunknown outtake that has appeared on bootlegs but was never formally released
