Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen is more often than not shirtless when performing, and his reasoning for that is twofold: it’s hot on stage and so is he.

Collen tells InsideHook of his shirt aversion with a laugh, “I get hot on stage, but also, I do look good!” (He’s not wrong.)

He adds, “Maybe it’s shallow, but that’s OK. I’m a performer, musician and artist. And performing is this whole thing. On stage, I want to look like a rock star.”

Of course, Collen isn’t naturally ripped; he does put in a lot of work. However, even he was guilty of gaining weight during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last summer, he launched a 30-day fitness challenge to help him shed his quarantine weight and to give insight into how he prepares for a tour. He shared four weekly videos over the course of a month that outlined his workout routines, diet changes and his favorite workout playlists.

It’s also worth noting that Collen turned 63 last December and is in better shape than a lot of people half his age. Seriously, way to go!
