Yoko Ono marked the anniversary of John Lennon’s death yesterday (December 8) with a stunning statistic on gun violence in the United States.

Ono shared via Twitter, “Over 1.5 million people have been killed by guns in the U.S.A. since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980.”

Ono’s tweet isn’t the first time someone close to Lennon has taken a stand against gun violence in the United States. Paul McCartney famously took part in the March for Our Lives event back in March 2018 in New York, which was organized near The Dakota where Lennon was shot and killed. In a brief comment to CNN, McCartney said, “One of my best friends was killed in gun violence right around here, so it’s important to me.”
