Zacky Vengeance, the left-handed guitarist from Avenged Sevenfold, is set to release his new solo album, “Dark Horse,” on April 3. In a recent interview, he shared insights about the album and his creative process.
Zacky explained that he had been working on these songs for a while. “I never really thought I’d do a solo project because Avenged has always been my main focus. But after spending five years at home before hitting the road again in 2023, I started playing around on my acoustic guitar and writing songs. I didn’t know what to do with them at first, but it felt good to express myself and share my story.”
If you’re expecting his solo music to sound like Avenged Sevenfold, think again. Zacky grew up listening to a mix of artists, from Hank Williams and Johnny Cash to Guns N’ Roses and Metallica. He found it easier to write simple songs on acoustic guitar. “I don’t have a heavy rock voice, and I’ve never liked my voice much. At first, I thought about selling my songs, but I realized I wanted to keep my personal music for myself.”
Interestingly, Zacky is using his real name, Zachery Baker, for this album. He wanted to connect with listeners on a personal level. “These songs are about my life and struggles. I want people to see the real me, not just the guy on stage. I hope my story inspires others, especially kids who are just starting out.”
Zacky created “Dark Horse” entirely on his own, without any record labels or producers. Fans can look forward to a deeply personal and relatable album when it drops.
