In a joint statement from the Recording Academy and CBS released yesterday (January 5), this year’s Grammy Awards Show has been postponed due to health concerns. The following statement was issued:
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
As we reported, there had been rumors of the postponement of the 64th annual Grammy Awards, originally set to take place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, this would be the second year in a row that the Grammys have been postponed due to COVID-19. Last year’s show was originally set for January 31, 2021, but on January 5, it was delayed to March 14 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles. At that time, the show was also relocated from Staples Center (which is what the Crypto.com Arena was called at the time) to the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center, which allowed for less crowding.
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who hosted last year, is also scheduled to host this year.
