311 & The Offspring Come Out & Play at Festival Pier

2018’s “Never Ending Summer Tour ” featuring 311, The Offspring and Gym Class Heros made it’s stop at Festival Pier in Philadelphia, PA on August 10, 2017.  Opening the night was New York’s Gym Class Heroes. GCY originally rose to prominence within the hip-hop and alternative scene with songs like “Cupid’s Chokehold” and “Stereo Hearts.”  They pleased the Philly crowd with a half-hour set that included hits from their discography, as well as the notoriously catchy “Billionaire” single that singer Travis McCoy released a few years ago.

The Offspring were up next with a high-energy punk rock set that delivered nothing but the band’s greatest hits.  The Offspring still release new songs every once in a while (including a cover of 311’s‘ “Down”, that was recorded and released as part of the ‘Never Ending Summer Tour’ promotion).  Even though they haven’t released a full album in 6 years, song like “Come Out And Play”, “Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)”, “The Kids Aren’t Alright”, “Why Don’t You Get A Job”, “Gotta Get Away”, and “Self-Esteem” still hold up and have the crowd energized at each song’s first note.

311‘s hybrid mix of rock, rap and reggae proved they are one of the most entertaining and dynamic bands.  They hit the road every summer playing songs that encompass the band’s twelve-album catalog. Their long set-list included hits from the 90’s and 2000’s  like “Amber”, “All Mixed Up”, “Perfect Mistake”, “Stealing Happy Hours”, and “Creatures (For Awhile Now)” provide just a taste of what fans received on a beautiful summer night in which one of the best tours of this summer made its way through Philly.
