5 Random Rock Facts You May Have Forgotten About

Rock history is so detailed and nuanced that it’s hard to remember everything, even though we try our best to do just that. However, that is what precisely inspired this list.

Today (July 2) is National I Forgot Day. Per ABC News, the holiday was started by Gaye Anderson. She told the outlet in 2009, “It probably had to be 10 years ago … it’s been well over five. I just went through a particularly forgetful period — I had a heavy workload doing student service work, as well as teaching, and things were slipping by — my daughter’s anniversary, my daughter’s birthday … my anniversary. Our anniversary was April 26th and I always think 4-24 instead of 4-26.”

Anderson described it as a day to mark things and events you have forgotten about, along with those you may forget about in the future. She says every year, she receives emails from various senior living facilities telling her they celebrate the holiday. Her theory behind the holiday’s growing popularity is that the population is getting older, and sometimes, older people tend to forget stuff.

In the spirit of National I Forgot Day, we created this short list. We decided to look back at random facts from rock history you may have forgotten about. Below are just five random rock facts that, whenever we remember them, they make us go, “Oh, yeah! I forgot about that!” Enjoy!
