Quincy Jones Celebrated With Several New Rereleases

Quincy Jones may be gone, but his music will truly live forever. Fans will soon have a new opportunity to appreciate some of his most beloved work as four of his albums come to vinyl, with many more becoming available on SHM-CD. Smackwater Jack, You’ve Got It Bad Girl, Body Heat, and Walking In Space will all be available for purchase on vinyl on June 6, with This Is How I Feel About Jazz, Big Band Bossa Nova, The Quintessence, Mellow Madness, Sounds… And Stuff Just Like That and The Dude joining them on SHM-CD.

The range of releases being made available is emblematic of the incredibly varied career of Jones. The earliest project represented here, The Quintessence, was released in 1962 and features Jones and his orchestra performing jazz. As his career progressed, the musician increasingly blended genres. With Body Heat, Jones pulled in pop and soul into his signature arrangements.

With You’ve Got It Bad Girl, Jones offered a soulful new take on Stevie Wonder’s classic and well as one of Jones’ most famous compositions—and perhaps one of the most famous compositions in television history—the “Sanford & Son Theme.” Smackwater Jack, first released in 1971, also features a look at Jones’ television scoring with, featuring “Ironside (Theme From “Ironside”),” “Theme From “The Anderson Tapes,” and “Hikky Burr (Theme From “The Bill Cosby Show”).” Walking In Space, meanwhile, shows Jones at the top of his fusion game, blending jazz and funk on tracks like “Dead End” and “I Never Told You.”

Jones died in November 2024, and the entire world, both musical and beyond, has spent the following months paying tribute to the one-of-a-kind artist. At the 2025 Grammys, Cynthia Erivo and Herbie Hancock performed an acclaimed rendition of “Fly Me To The Moon” in honor of the jazz great. Likewise, at the 2025 Oscars, Queen Latifah led a rousing performance of “Ease On Down The Road,” which Jones arranged for the film The Wiz. His work will undoubtedly delight and entertain listeners for decades to come.
