Petey USA To Release New Album, ‘The Yips’ In July

Petey USA has announced the release of his third studio album, The Yips, via Capitol Records. Produced by Chris Walla, formerly of Death Cab for Cutie, The Yips is a concept album, unfolding in a fictional dive bar with each song representing a different table of patrons engaged in a heart-to-heart talk. The record is out July 11th.

The record’s title comes from sports parlance, in which “the yips” refers to the performance anxiety that can prevent peak performance. On the album, Petey applies this turn of phrase to the anxieties of everyday life. “The album’s about going through a period where just nothing’s clicking,” the Michigan-born, Los Angeles-based, genre-mashing dynamo explains, “so you go to a bar where everyone can collect themselves and get drunk.”

Petey USA will launch The Yips with sold-out album release shows at intimate venues in three cities: Chicago, Brooklyn and Los Angeles. He’ll support Rainbow Kitten Surprise on several East Coast dates in July and open for Zach Bryan on August 30 at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, WV. Ticket information can be found on Petey USA’s website.

The artist has also shared a video for his new single, “As Two People Drift Apart,” off the upcoming album. The video features influencer/gamer/model Vince Hacker in the continuing adventures of Petey and Albon, which began in his video for “Don’t Tell The Boys” from his debut album. “As Two People Drift Apart” follows the release of singles “Model Train Town” and “The Milkman” off The Yips.

Working with Walla on the record was a life-long dream for Petey: “[Death Cab For Cutie’s] one of the few bands whose discography I know inside and out,” he says, “I’ve watched documentaries on how he made Death Cab records like Transatlanticism. So he was my number one choice.”

Order Petey USA’s The Yips on vinyl and CD now.
