Yungblud has released a new documentary that dives into the making of the music video for his song “Zombie.” This track is part of his fourth studio album, Idols, which came out on June 20th. The music video, which premiered on May 30th, is a heartfelt tribute to nurses and features Florence Pugh as a dedicated healthcare worker on a late-night shift.
In the documentary, Yungblud shares that he reached out to Florence on Instagram to see if she wanted to collaborate. He said, “I’m a really big fan of her work. It was amazing to hear that she’s a fan of mine.” Florence added, “Dom inspires me… his soul and authenticity is so electric and full of love. It made me leap at the opportunity of collaborating.”
“Zombie” is inspired by Yungblud’s grandmother, who struggled with addiction. The song addresses the fear of asking for help and the importance of healthcare workers who support those in need. To prepare for the video, Yungblud and director Charlie Sarsfield spoke with several nurses about their experiences.
The song took nearly five years to finish, with Yungblud recording the guitar part six times. It set the stage for his album Idols, which also features singles like “Lovesick Lullaby” and “Hello Heaven, Hello.” Yungblud and his producer challenged themselves to create music without outside influences, focusing on what was in his heart.
