‘Scenic’ Pennsylvania Small Town Named One of America’s Best

There’s something special about small towns. The U.S. is full of charming places just waiting to be explored. A simple walk through these towns can lead you to friendly faces and unique experiences. Small towns are truly the heart of America, and many of them have a cool vibe.

A new feature highlights some of the best small towns across the country. While big cities like New York and Los Angeles grab the spotlight, it’s the small towns that have shaped the nation. These towns are rich in history, culture, and local charm, making them great spots to visit.

So, how small are these towns? According to the U.S. Census, about 76% of incorporated places have fewer than 5,000 residents, and around a third of those have less than 500 people. Small-town life is more than just a definition; it’s a way of life for the people who call these places home.

Now, let’s talk about Pennsylvania. One of the coolest towns in the state is Jim Thorpe. Originally named Mauch Chunk, which means “Bear Place,” this picturesque town in eastern Pennsylvania was renamed in 1954 to honor the Olympic athlete buried there. Once a coal mining hub, Jim Thorpe has transformed into a scenic destination along the Lehigh River, close to Lehigh Gorge State Park.

If you’re looking for a charming getaway, Jim Thorpe is definitely worth a visit!
