John Lennon and Yoko Ono have a long history of political activism, and their new box set, Power To The People (Super Deluxe Edition), is a fitting tribute. Set to release on October 10, this massive collection features 123 songs across 12 discs—nine CDs and three Blu-Rays. It includes 90 tracks that have never been released before.
The package also comes with a 204-page hardback book, designed by Simon Hilton, which shares an oral history of the music included. Sean Ono Lennon, their son, led the team that put this project together. He previously won a Grammy for his work on John Lennon’s Mind Games – The Ultimate Collection.
Power To The People includes a wealth of demos, home recordings, live cuts, and alternate mixes. Notable tracks include “Give Peace A Chance” and a new version of the 1972 album Sometime In New York City. It also features recordings from the One To One Concerts at Madison Square Garden, which were Lennon’s only full-length shows after leaving the Beatles. These concerts were the last performances John and Yoko did together.
In the preface, Ono reflects on the concert as a moment of grassroots politics, emphasizing their belief in “Rock for Peace and Enlightenment.” For Sean, putting this collection together was a special experience. He expressed how meaningful it was to hear unreleased material from his parents. The team worked hard to balance the live show feel with refined sound, making the final product sound better than ever.
