The lineup for the event was impressive, but it almost included a big name: Robert Plant. The former Led Zeppelin frontman revealed that Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi invited him, but he turned it down. Plant explained, “I said, Tony, I’d love to come, but I can’t. I just can’t. I don’t know much about what’s happening in that world now. I don’t have anything against it; I just found other places that are more appealing to me.”
While Plant didn’t go into detail about why he declined Iommi’s invitation, he hinted that he prefers smaller venues. He mentioned his upcoming tour with his new band, Saving Grace, saying, “The gigs are small enough that if nobody shows up, it’s not the end of the world. With that laid-back attitude, instead of playing in a big stadium with old friends, we felt free to experiment.”
Plant is set to release his first new solo album in eight years, also titled *Saving Grace*, on September 26. This album is his first solo work since 2017’s *Carry Fire* and his first release since 2021’s *Raise The Roof* with Alison Krauss. To support the new album, Plant and Saving Grace will be touring North America this fall.
