Serj Tankian, the vocalist of System of a Down, is set to release a new project titled *Covers, Collaborations & Collages* on October 24. This collection will be available through Serjical Strike Records and Create Music Group. The album features 10 tracks that blend fresh interpretations of classic songs with unique musical partnerships.
Tankian has teamed up with electronic artist Deadmau5, New Zealand singer Bic Runga, and Spanish composer Lucas Vidal for this exciting project. Fans got a sneak peek with the release of āElectric Dreamsā on August 22. This dreamy, acoustic track was recorded over 20 years ago, and Tankian plans to drop more songs weekly leading up to the album’s release.
Earlier this year, Tankian released his *Foundations* EP and published his life story, *Down With The System*, through Hachette Books. He describes this new album as a mix of previously unreleased recordings and covers. āI wanted to put out a record of collaborations I havenāt released before, along with covers, which I havenāt done,ā he said.
On the album, Tankian puts his own spin on Chris de Burghās āIām Counting on Youā and Armenian artist Ruben Hakhverdyanās āWhen Death Arrives.ā D.S. Bradford created the striking visuals for the album and contributed guitar work on āKneeling Away From The Sun.ā Other tracks include āA Seed,ā āThings Unspoken,ā and āI Found You.ā Each song will come with behind-the-scenes clips where Tankian shares stories about their creation.
This week also marks the beginning of System of a Downās stadium tour across North America. They will perform at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, on August 27 and 28, with Korn as the opening act. On September 12, Tankian will take part in the Echoes of Our Ancestors concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, celebrating Armenian culture through music.Ā
