Jodeci is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their iconic album, *The Show, The Afterparty, The Hotel*, by reissuing it on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1995. This 2LP black vinyl set comes in a standard jacket that mirrors the original tracklist.
The album marked a high point for Jodeci, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and becoming their third consecutive album to top the R&B charts. It produced three hit singles on the Hot 100: “Freek’n You,” “Get On Up,” and the beloved wedding ballad “Love U 4 Life.” To celebrate the reissue, the music video for “Love U 4 Life” is premiering on Jodeci’s YouTube channel.
Jodeci emerged as a defining act of the new jack swing era, bringing a gritty edge to R&B. They stood out with their hip-hop-inspired style, wearing baseball caps, sports jerseys, and military boots, earning the title of the “bad boys of R&B.” This was a stark contrast to smoother groups like Boyz II Men.
The album is known for its raw and sensual lyrics, influenced by producer Devante Swing’s idol, Prince. A young Timbaland also contributed to the project, showcasing his early talent.
Rashad Grove noted that while Jodeci excelled at dance tracks, they truly shined with their slow jams. Songs like “S-More,” co-written by Missy Elliott, “Pump It Back,” and “Can We Flo?” are standout tracks that capture the essence of 90s R&B.
