Deftones Achieves First Billboard Radio No. 1 After 27 Years of Anticipation

After nearly 30 years, Deftones have hit the top spot with their new single, “My Mind Is a Mountain.” The song reached No. 1 on the charts, marking a significant milestone for the band, who first appeared on the charts back in 1998 with “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away).” “My Mind Is a Mountain” is part of their latest album, Private Music, which took nine weeks to climb to the top.

On social media, the band encouraged fans to check out the new track, saying, “private music | … listen to ‘My Mind Is a Mountain’ now.” The song has proven to be a strong contender, holding the No. 1 spot on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart and reaching No. 5 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart through mid-September. This achievement surpasses Ozzy Osbourne’s previous record, who waited 26 years between hits.

Private Music has made a big splash on Billboard’s charts, topping four rock charts and breaking into the top 10 on three others. It even reached No. 2 on the vinyl chart, thanks to dedicated fans. Each of the album’s 11 tracks has made it onto Billboard charts, with “Infinite Source” leading the way before “My Mind Is a Mountain” took over. Two other tracks, “I Think About You All the Time” and “Milk of the Madonna,” are also in the top 10.

Meanwhile, Shinedown is close behind with their single “Killing Fields,” aiming for their own No. 1. Over the years, Deftones have placed 17 songs on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, with nine hitting the top 10. Private Music has held the No. 1 spot on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart for two weeks straight.
