Ilan Rubin Joins Foo Fighters as New Drummer, Generating Excitement Among Fans

Ilan Rubin made a big impression on September 13 at the Fremont Theater, stepping in as the drummer for Foo Fighters. The crowd was electric as the band returned to the stage after a year-long break. “Last night with Foo Fighters was an amazing experience,” Rubin shared on Instagram. “After focusing hard on the material for a few months, that first show was such a huge release of energy.”

The news of Rubin joining the band spread quickly on social media, highlighted by a new group photo with him front and center. At just 11 years old, Rubin became the youngest musician to perform at Woodstock. His talent was recognized again in 2020 when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame invited him to join.

In mid-2025, there was a surprising change in the band lineup. Former drummer Josh Freese returned to Nine Inch Nails, where Rubin had been drumming since 2009. The transition was smooth, with both drummers fitting into their new roles seamlessly.

Fans can look forward to more music from Foo Fighters. The band will perform in Jakarta on October 2, Singapore on October 4, and in Japan from October 7 to 10. They will wrap up their tour with shows in Monterrey and Mexico City in November.

Social media was buzzing with fan reactions, and Rubin expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m overwhelmed by all the positivity and support. Thank you! I’m excited for all the volume and sweat that’s coming up.” Keep an eye out for more updates as the band continues their tour!
