Rob Halford of Judas Priest Marks 39 Years of Sobriety with Daily Prayer and Strong Faith

Rob Halford, the legendary frontman of Judas Priest, will celebrate 39 years of sobriety in January 2026. He credits his daily spiritual routine for staying clean since 1986. “I start the day with prayer, and I end the day with prayer,” Halford shared. He believes that choosing a higher power is a personal journey.

Halford’s turning point came on January 6, 1986. He explained, “When you’re an alcoholic or a drug addict, you have a choice. You hand it all over to something greater than yourself and work daily to maintain your sobriety.”

He finds inspiration in unexpected places, like his “heavy metal cactus” by the swimming pool. While he doesn’t pray in front of it, the cactus serves as a meaningful reminder for him.

Sobriety has sharpened Halford’s mind. “Now I see much more clearly. There’s nothing interrupting my thoughts from substances. The clarity is great for me as a creative person,” he said.

Life on the road can be challenging, but Halford remains committed to his routine. Before and after every show, he recites his serenity prayer.

Judas Priest is currently on tour with Alice Cooper, rocking stages across North America until late October. Fans can catch them next in Bridgeport on September 23, followed by Virginia Beach the next night, and Toronto on September 29. The tour will wrap up with a final show at Houston’s Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
