The first four albums from legendary heavy metal band Danzig are being reissued on vinyl for the first time since their original releases. The albums include Danzig (1988), Danzig II: Lucifuge (1990), Danzig III: How the Gods Kill (1992), and Danzig 4 (1994). Each LP will feature gatefold jackets, printed sleeves, and will be pressed on black, standard weight vinyl. These albums are key highlights in Glenn Danzig’s impressive career.
Danzig’s debut album, released in 1988, was the first on Rick Rubin’s Def American Recordings, now known as American Recordings. Rubin had previously worked with Glenn on the 1987 soundtrack for the film Less Than Zero and suggested the name Danzig for the band. Glenn later shared that Rubin encouraged him to stick with one name to avoid confusion.
The self-titled debut album helped the band gain popularity, especially with hit singles like “Mother” and “Twist of Cain.” While “Mother” became a fan favorite, Danzig has always aimed to explore new sounds rather than repeat past successes. He stated, “I could have written ‘Mother’ 20 times and made tons of money, but that’s not what I want to do. It’s time to move on and explore other areas.”
