My Morning Jacket Delivers Epic Metallica Covers at Concert

On October 17 at the Brooklyn Paramount, My Morning Jacket (MMJ) surprised fans with their first live performance of Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls.” Guest bassist Karina Rykman joined the band for this special show. She expressed her excitement on Facebook, saying, “What can I say? Childhood dream come true covering Metallica with My Morning Jacket in my hometown? Thank you, thank you MMJ. You’re just the best and I’m honored.”

The band seamlessly mixed the metal classic into their song “Cobra.” They played a total of 24 songs, starting with “At Dawn.” Other highlights included “Circuital,” “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 1,” “Golden,” and “Least Expected.” In a unique twist, they covered The Velvet Underground’s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and blended it into “I’m Amazed.” The night also featured fresh tracks from their latest albums, *is* and *The Waterfall II*. The crowd loved “Lemme Know,” and “River Road” flowed into “Out in the Open.” The main set wrapped up with an energetic version of “Dancefloors.”

This concert marked MMJ’s return to New York City after a two-year break. The opening night celebrated the 20th anniversary of their album *Z*, and fans were thrilled to hear “The Devil’s Peanut Butter,” a hidden track from 2005, performed live.

This isn’t the first time MMJ has covered Metallica. In 2021, they put their own spin on “Nothing Else Matters” for *The Metallica Blacklist* compilation. The band will continue their tour across the Midwest and Southeast until November 1. Fans can check their website for the full schedule and ticket information.
