Soundgarden to Reunite with Original Bassist for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Performance

Soundgarden is set to perform on November 8, and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto will join the surviving members for this special event. This will be the first time in decades that Yamamoto has played with the band. Drummer Matt Cameron, guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Ben Shepherd are currently rehearsing with him ahead of the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Yamamoto left Soundgarden in 1989 and hasn’t shared the stage with them since. His return is a big deal for fans who have supported the band since their early days in Seattle. Taylor Momsen from The Pretty Reckless will also perform at the show. She opened for Soundgarden during their 2017 tour and sang at the Chris Cornell tribute concert in 2019.

The lineup for the tribute includes Nancy Wilson from Heart, Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains, and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam. Brandi Carlile will also be a guest singer, having performed with the band in 2019.

Pearl Jam shared on Instagram that McCready and Cantrell have been jamming with the remaining members of Soundgarden, who are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this November. The 2025 induction class also includes Bad Company and Outkast, alongside the Seattle rock legends.

The ceremony will feature an exhibit celebrating Soundgarden’s legacy, showcasing items like Chris Cornell’s 1979 Gibson Les Paul guitar. Fans are excited about the possibility of Cantrell taking on lead vocals for a song during the set. Many hope to see Alice in Chains inducted into the Hall of Fame in the future, as they are the last of the Seattle big four still missing from the honor.
